Random Poem of the Day – III

The Wolf

by Michael Ball

I sleep.
The cold white covers me.
My brothers share their warmth.
Waiting out the storm.

I wake.
Hunger knots my stomach.
Shake the cold, scent the air.
There is meat nearby.

Rouse the pack.
Time to hunt.
Find the trail, sound the call.
Chase the meat, bring it down.

I circle round.
Stay close to cover.
My brothers drive it toward me.
Run, leap, attack it now.

I feed.
The meat is good.
The pack howls in chorus.
We own the land.

I sleep.
The cold white covers me.
Until we hunger again.
