Random Poem of the Day – VIII

Ones and Zeros

by Michael Ball

Ones and zeros, Ones and zeros,
My days are filled with them.

They flow past unseen as I key in my name,
Reducing my efforts to the binary ticks
Of the computer’s unyielding logic.

Bits and bytes,
Bits and bytes,
The data flows in digital streams.
It moves from node to node at blazing speed
Carrying our thoughts and dreams.

Making the distances between us
Seem irrelevant.
Eroding our humanity
Until all that remains of life
Are digital afterimages that cease to exist
With the flick of a switch.
